Uros Islands
The most unique of the islands dotting Titicaca's surface are the Uros. They are floating islands man-made of totora reeds. There are 30 of these islands inhabited by the Uro people.
The Uro people, pre-date the Incas, and legend has it - the Sun itself. The surface of these islands is uneven and it is akin to walking on a waterbed. The reeds must be regularly replaced with new layers. The reeds are also utilized to build homes and boats. The same as used by Thor Heyerdahl on his Peru-Polynesia journey.
